Clinical application of functional near-infrared spectroscopy in the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of major depressive disorder
The incidence rate of major depressive disorder(MDD) is rising rapidly, with the characteristics of high disability rate, high mortality rate, and high missed diagnosis rate. At present, the diagnosis of MDD mainly relies on clinical symptoms and various rating scales, and there is still a lack of objective biological indicators. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy(fNIRS) is an emerging noninvasive brain functional imaging technique, and in 2009,it was approved for the identification of mental illnesses as a biological indicator for auxiliary diagnosis, especially in MDD,showing rapid increases in clinical application and studies. This article comprehensively reviews the application of fNIRS in diagnosing MDD,assessing disease severity, and monitoring treatment response,as well as its application in adolescent depression,so as to provide guidance for clinical research and application.
