The pharmaceutical functions of honeysuckle and its application in the production of poultry

Abstract

Objectives The main active ingredients, pharmaceutical functions, and application of honeysuckle in the production of poultry were summarized to provide reference for its application as an alternative for antibiotics in feed for poultry. Methods The main active ingredients and pharmaceutical functions of honeysuckle were summarized, and the effects of honeysuckle on the production performance, immune performance, antioxidant performance, and intestinal health of poultry were discussed by reviewing relevant literature. Results Honeysuckle has effect of antivirus, anti-inflammation, anti-bacteria, anti-oxidaion, and regulating immune, and can be used as a good alternative for antibiotics to enhance the production performance, immune performance, and antioxidant performance of poultry, and improve the intestinal health of poultry. Conclusions Honeysuckle has broad application prospects in poultry feed, but further in-depth studies are needed to improve the intestinal function of poultry to make it have greater potential in the production of poultry.
