Preliminary investigation and analysis on the colonization of cyclovirus (type Ⅱ) in small-scale and medium-scale pig farms in Xichang City, Sichuan Province
Objectives The prevalence of porcine circovirus type Ⅱ (PCV2) in small-scale and medium-scale pig farms in Xichang City, Sichuan Province, was studied to provide a basis for formulating comprehensive strategies for the prevention and control of PCV2. Methods The literature on the epidemiological monitoring of PCV2 in Xichang City since 2012 in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure database were reviewed. The epidemic trend of PCV2 was analyzed. A survey was conducted on the situation of pig farming in some small-scale and medium-scale pig farms in Xichang City from May to September 2023. PCR was used to detect the cyclovirus (type Ⅱ) in environmental swabs. Results The situation of PCV2 infection in Xichang City was severe from 2008 to 2019 according to literature. The results of investigation showed that the environmental colonization rate of cyclovirus (type Ⅱ) in small-scale and medium-scale pig farms in Xichang City was 17.91%. The time for environmental transmission was in June and September. Large scale pig farms had better measures for controlling environmental safety, and environmental disinfection such as sodium hydroxide was used to effectively prevent and control PCV2. Conclusions The colonization of cyclovirus (type Ⅱ) in the environment was relatively severe in Xichang City. Institutions of animal disease prevention and control and pig farmers need to develop specific and comprehensive strategies for the prevention and control of PCV2 in Xichang City, Sichuan Province.
