Objectives In order to promote the reform of animal medicine major and cultivate the high-level applied talents who can adapt to the strategy of rural revitalization. Methods The problems in the education of animal medicine major at Xizang Agricultural and Animal Husbandry University were analyzed to find the bottleneck that hinders students from engaging in rural revitalization in the future. Ways to improve students' ability to hands-on practice and link theory with the practice in Xizang were explored. Results The practical learning hours of students increased through reforming the education model. Students' aversion to experimental animals was reduced. The problem of limited practical opportunities for students and insufficient teachers under dispersed internships was solved. Teaching was enabled to link theory with practice. The regret of fewer experimental animals was partially made up. The channel between the cultivation of animal medicine talent and rural revitalization was opened up. Conclusions Various means of teaching reform can improve the practical ability of students majoring in animal medicine, enable students to give play to their professional skills in veterinary medicine, and better serve the rural revitalization in Xizang.
