Abstract

Objectives The reproductive potential of elite female Chinese Simmental cattle (grassland-type herd) was fully utilized with the application of embryo transplantation technology to provide technical references for its application and promotion in reproductive production. Methods 68 young Chinese Simmental cattle (grassland-type herd) were subjected to batch synchronous estrus and embryo transplantation using the CIDR+PG+ADE method. The estrus rate and conception rate were measured. The body condition of the recipient cows was scored according to the technical regulations for evaluating the body condition of beef cows. Results The synchronous estrus rate of Chinese Simmental cattle (grassland-type herd) was 79.4%, and the conception rate of embryo transplantation was 40.7%. The estrus rate of young cows in April was relatively high (84.2%), and the conception rate in July was relatively high (45.5%). The conception rate of embryo transplantation (60%) of young cows aged 20–24 months with moderate fatness was significantly higher than that of cows aged 16–19 months or big fatness. The conception rate (46.2%) of young cows with a body condition score of 4–6 was higher than that of young cows with a body condition score of 1–3 and 7–9. The cost of embryo transplantation for one cow is 13 400 yuan. Conclusions Introducing embryo transplantation in this area is economically feasible.
