Abstract

With the rapid increase in the number of postgraduates with professional degree in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the postgraduate education of TCM is facing new opportunities and challenges. In addition to mastering professional knowledge and clinical skills, TCM graduate students should also have the corresponding professional English ability. In order to improve the professional English ability of postgraduates with professional degree, understand their actual needs, and improve the quality of training of postgraduates with professional degree, this paper reviews the current situation of professional English learning of postgraduates with professional degree, and analyzes the current situation of English teaching and teaching materials of postgraduates of TCM, with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine as an example. In view of the weakness of professional English ability highlighted in the training process, this paper proposes the idea of the construction of English textbooks for TCM graduate students to meet their actual needs. The construction of postgraduate teaching materials of English for TCM graduate students should be based on the actual needs of postgraduates, clarify audience groups, highlight the characteristics and innovation, integrate the advantages of the team, and have comprehensive content and strong practicability, so as to effectively solve the problem of “separation of learning and application” of TCM professional English, promote the reform of postgraduate English teaching in TCM, and advance the innovative development of teaching objectives, teaching content and teaching mode of English public courses for TCM postgraduates.
