Practice and evaluation of an inter-university integrative pre-hospital emergency elective course
Objective To implement and evaluate the teaching outcomes of an inter-university public elective course on integrative pre-hospital emergency care. Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to gather feedback from 97 students regarding the course and to assess changes in their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to pre-hospital emergency care before and after the course. Students' reflections on their learning experience were also collected. Results Students rated various aspects of the course highly, with statistically significant improvements observed in total scores for knowledge, attitude, and behavior, as well as in specific items related to attitude and behavior. Analysis of student reflections identified four main themes: not only did they gain knowledge, but they also corrected misunderstandings; they gained confidence in performing emergency care; they developed a newfound interest and respect for TCM in emergency care; and they appreciated the depth of TCM culture, strengthening their confidence in TCM heritage. Conclusion The inter-university integrative pre-hospital emergency elective course effectively enhanced students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors in pre-hospital emergency care and helped promote TCM culture.
