Abstract

A questionnaire survey was conducted among 102 supervisors and 329 graduate students in a clinical medical college of a traditional Chinese medicine university. The survey covered four aspects: “basic information of supervisors,” “evaluation of basic qualities,” “evaluation of guidance situation,” and “improvement of guidance abilities.” The results showed that the supervisors' self-evaluation of their competence was generally consistent with the students' evaluations, although the overall satisfaction rate from students (94.22%) was lower than the supervisors' self-assessment (99.02%) across four dimensions. Both supervisors and students agreed that supervisors need to improve in cultivating students' innovation and practical abilities, and students lack awareness of scientific research innovation and problem-solving. Supervisors expressed a strong desire to improve their mentoring skills. It is recommended to enhance the interaction mechanism between supervisors and students, strengthen employment guidance, and improve supervisor training programs to enhance mentorship competence and promote the high-quality development of postgraduate education.
